Can : 
  • The modal "can" indicates possibility or ability.
  • Modal verbs "can" be used to ask for permission
  • Examples :
    1. I can speak five languages.
    2. She can fix this.
    3. He can dance.
    4. We can go to the seaside at last.
    5. Wild animals can be dangerous.
    6. You can buy anything with your money but you can not buy love.
    7. Can I borrow your car for one night?


Could :

  • The modal "could" indicates possibility or ability in the past.
  • "Could" be used to express ability in the past.
  • Modal verbs can be used to ask for permission to do something in the past or the future.
  • Examples :
    1. I could swim well when i was child.
    2. We could go on a picnic if it weren't raining.
    3. She could run very fast when she was young.
    4. You could have passed the exam if you had studied more.
    5. They could have taken train if they had left sooner.
    6. Could I use your computer to print and scan?
    7. You could run faster than me two years ago.
